US honors Vietnam war hero 41 years later
Quote:
Lieutenant Colonel Bruce Crandall, called "Old Snake" by his fellow soldiers, earned the rarely awarded Medal of Honor for a daring day of missions to save wounded soldiers during one of the war's bloodiest battles with North Vietnamese forces.
On November 14, 1965, Crandall, now 74, flew 14 missions in three different helicopters into what was branded the "Valley of Death," the Ia Drang valley, to evacuate 70 wounded US soldiers.
I'm glad Crandall finally got the reward he deserved, but the time that has gone by before he received this reward is shameful.
