I have just been informed that the 4th Infantry Division is preparing to deploy to Iraq with only eight months at home and without the appropriate training. This is unacceptable.

The stress on our military due to the manner in which the president has waged the war in Iraq is no longer tolerable.

Due to continuous and extended deployments to Iraq, our military is running out of troops and equipment and is being forced to abandon its own rotation and deployment guidelines in order to sustain the president's war plan.
In short, our military has been forced to do too much with too little.

Comments to this article were pretty much--get rid of Bush/Chaney.

AND the troops have not only been mislead and ill used by the Commander in Chief, not given proper treatment for their wounds, and not properly supplied for combat, they've been used in other ways to further the president's neocon agenda. Now, the Congress says they're going to investigate two very controversial military cases:

Congress Will Investigate Misinformation on Tillman, Lynch

The House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform will investigate the Pentagon’s handling of the death of Pat Tillman and the rescue of Jessica Lynch to determine “why inaccurate accounts of these two incidents were disseminated, the sources and motivations for the accounts, and whether the appropriate administration officials have been held accountable.”

The House Armed Services Committee also is considering an investigation.

AP:

A U.S. House committee announced Tuesday it would hold hearings on misleading military statements that followed the friendly fire death of Pat Tillman in Afghanistan and the rescue of Pfc. Jessica Lynch in Iraq.

The House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform said an April 24 hearing would be part of its investigation into whether there was a strategy to mislead the public.

“The truth, the truth, this is only a search for the truth,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said at a news conference in San Francisco. “It’s about holding this administration accountable for the message that it sends out. ... It’s about reality.”

Murtha says Rumsfeld appointees frustrate oversight, cuts Pentagon agency budget

Quote:
Rep. John Murtha (D-PA) halved the budget of a Pentagon liaison office to the Congress in retaliation for what he sees as Defense Department foot-dragging on Congressional oversight. The Congressman's staff suggested leftovers from the tenure of former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld were at fault for the lapses in cooperation with Congress.

The Office of Legislative Affairs, which serves as a go-between for Secretary of Defense Robert Gates and Capitol Hill, is slated to lose $1.9 million.

"Mr. Murtha said that they have failed to answer Congressional questions in a timely matter," Matthew Mazonkey, spokesman for the Pennsylvania Democrat, said. The congressman chairs the powerful Defense Appropriations Subcommittee.

Legislative Affairs spokeswoman Tracy Scott referred RAW STORY to the Pentagon's press office. Pentagon spokesman Brian Maka, in turn, was reticent.

"The Office of Legislative Affairs performs a very important function as a liaison with Congress," Maka told RAW STORY Thursday afternoon. "It's inappropriate to talk about proposed legislation."

Murtha is on the right track here, but taking 1.5 million from any part of the Pentagon is like taking a nickel from a child's long-term piggy bank. It won't make a big difference in the long term! However, it gets some media attention given to one more area in which Bushco is actually doing the opposite of what they say they're doing, and it also sends a message to Bushco that at least some Congress Critters like Murtha aren't rolling over and playing dead....or asking Bushco to please rub their bellies!

AND don't you just LOVE that "it's inappropriate to talk about proposed legislation" comment? As one person said at the link in the COMMENTS section:

Quote:
Pentagon spokesman Brian Maka: "It's inappropriate to talk about proposed legislation."

Please explain to me, like I'm a 3 year-old, why it's inapproprite to discuss proposed legislation in an open, democratic society.

Answer: BECAUSE IT AIN'T AN OPEN, DEMOCRATIC SOCIETY!!!

Yeah, it's inappropriate to talk about the scandals of this administration. It's inappropriate to call the president a liar...even if he is one!
