About 2/3 of the 270,000 seals the Canadian government has signed death warrants for have been killed, including pups just a few days old.

The sealing boats are caught in ice..(goody-goody), which is costing the Canadian taxpayers more money to try to rescue the vessels and their cruel and heartless crews.

Pardon me but this is a half-truth. The hunting of seal pups just a few days old is prohibited since 20 years in Canada. And it's a severely controlled hunting and the animal resource is not at all threatened of extinction. Approximately 300000 catches are authorized each year, and the population of seals currently rises to 5,8 million. This is not a problem from an environnemental point of vue.

There are issues more worrying than seals hunting like mainly retreat of the ice floes due to global warming.

OKay, I read the article, and am still totally against the seal hunt.

It is as humane as slaughter houses? Wow! What an endorsement!!!

It looks as though the Canadian government is as humane as the Bush Administration.

It refers to the killing method. The seals have been hunted this way for thousands years and they are not threatened of extinction. Population of seals of Canada is in full growth particularly since 25 years. The meat of seal has an enormous nutritional value and its collagen is used to cultivate the skin for the badly burned persons, one could even more used its oil but these uses are prevented by the world anti-hunting campaigns.


The Canadian government has a lot to learn to be as efficient as the Bush Administration and Harper learns rather quickly. It seems he wants to take the place of Blair you know...........next to Barney.

Normal! Candidates for Congress spend million dollars to be elected and almost all this money comes from the business world. In other words, the private sector buys to some extent almost all the Congress! But of course, this is not corruption...
