It cost a lot to get started. The time to do it, is when one builds a new home from scratch. Unless one has lots of - $$$$$$$$.
Yup, I'm also in a good location for it. I have 2 small solar cells and 6 batteries. I use them for power outages and etc. I have some other stuff to, but I'm holding off somewhat. I hope to build a new log home in the future at this location, but it is going to be quite awhile yet. When I do, I hope to get off the grid, or so to speak. Problem is, I'm not getting any younger!
