There's a lot of hoopla surrounding the 30th anniversary of Elvis's death. What, if anything, did/does he mean to your life? Where were you when you learned of his death and what was your reaction?

Well, I wasn't even 2 when he died, so I don't remember a thing...but, Elvis was born in Tupelo, MS which is right up the road from here...and if you tell someone you are from MS, they usually go "Oh, where Elvis was born?"...

I was a new teacher, getting my room ready for the influx within a few days. I had an old radio on, listening to some music from Atlanta..when there was a breaking news bulletin, announcing Elvis's death. My reaction was shock because he seemed almost immortal, although I wasn't a particularly avid fan of his music. Elvis was to have appeared in Asheville within a couple of weeks and I'd recently driven by the motel that he and his entourage had taken over. I think folks that had tickets to that particular performance have held onto them. I hear they're pretty valuable on ebay.
