Mistrial in case of US officer who refused to fight in Iraq

FORT LEWIS, United States - The court martial of a US army officer who refused to fight in Iraq was ruled a mistrial here after a dispute over a pre-trial agreement.

Military judge Lieutenant Colonel John Head halted the case involving First Lieutenant Ehren Watada following possible inconsistencies concerning a "stipulation of fact" agreed before the hearing.

A date for a new court martial has been set for March 19

Wonder how the Watada thing is going to turn out. The news has gotten sparse.

For his defense, he could possibly point to the Tillman fallout. Someone with his beliefs in the military would probably end up battered by his own troops.

I have wondered about Watada too.

So much silence...

I consider him a hero!

It seems that the last news is all from february.

Perhaps it's intentional as well. This is another example of how one must go outside the country to get any news- and then it isn't about him specifically, but about General Taguba, with a small mention about Erin Watada as an "Asian American".

Hey Tut- notice it's from an Asian newspaper again.

Hard to find anything about Erin Watada though. Wonder WHY? News Inaction again. :x Silencing dissent is a busy occupation for TPTB. Work work creating work.
