This is a very interesting article about Mother Teresa...wonder what the Vatican will think of it!

Mother Teresa doubted existence of God until her death

"Mother Teresa was so doubtful of her own faith that she feared being a hypocrite," CBS News correspondent Mark Phillips reports.

According to Rev. Kolodiejchuk, "the priest who's making the case to the Vatican for Mother Teresa's proposed sainthood," letters he's gathered which show her doubting her faith right up until the end will help the case.

"Now we have this new understanding, this new window into her interior life, and for me this seems to be the most heroic," Rev. Kolodiejchuk told CBS.

Excerpts from article:

#
In a new book that compiles letters she wrote to friends, superiors and confessors, her doubts are obvious. Shortly after beginning work in Calcutta's slums, the spirit left Mother Teresa.

"Where is my faith?" she wrote. "Even deep down… there is nothing but emptiness and darkness... If there be God — please forgive me."

Eight years later, she was still looking to reclaim her lost faith. "Such deep longing for God… Repulsed, empty, no faith, no love, no zeal," she said. As her fame increased, her faith refused to return. Her smile, she said, was a mask. "What do I labor for?" she asked in one letter. "If there be no God, there can be no soul. If there be no soul then, Jesus, You also are not true."

When I learned Mother Teresa denied pain killing drugs to people who needed tham because 'pain is good for the soul' but took them herself when she needed them, any respect I had for her was gone.

Whether she believed in a god or not, she was not a decent person. No one who refuses to help someone who needs it is a decent person, especially when they give to themselves what they denied to others.

This article came out in the Readers Digest while I was still in school and made an impression on me. I will try to locate it.

A doctor took several people who was going to pass on. No hope for them.

He placed each patient in a bed that was on scales so he could keep tract of their exact weight.

Each of these patients, at the point of their death, lost exactly the same amount of weight. Weight of the parient was not a determining factor. A 100 pound or a 30 pound patient lost exactly the same amount of weight.

The doctor determined this was the weight of the soul as it left the corpse at the point of death.

Does anyone have another explanation of how this scientific medical experment can be explained?

I myself tried to rationlize - I thought the body voids itself of urine and feces. However this would still be in bed and would not change the weight.

ACCORDING TO SNOPES, A PHYSICIAN ONCE PLACED DYING PATIENTS UPON A SCALE IN ORDER TO MEASURE THE WEIGHT OF THE HUMAN SOUL

STATUS: TRUE (as far as the actual experiment taking place goes). Belief in the outcome of the experiment is up to the individual according to his or her religious bent.

As I read this information at the SNOPES link, I also learned that the same "good doctor" had thought nothing of "poisoning 15 healthy canines for his little exercise in biological theology."

Read more at the link, particularly the sources.

Mother Theresa's revelation makes her a new sort of hero in my mind.
