I am Nathaniel Heidenheimer, and I have a media problem.


Am also a social studies teacher who's feeling like teaching check's and balances at this point in history should be grounds for educational neglect.


I want to read books talk about them and figure out what to do.My goal is to somehow popularize disinformation strategy and the history of its use, so that people will know more about what they are up against. This is especially importatan, I think, because increasingly media is the cage of t real politics, and we lack even the words and conceptual tools to explain it to people who arn't professors. This change has to happen or nothing will change from what I now honestly consider to be a new media mode of fascism.

All this could take some powerful vitamins.

I teach US history in NYC. I have always found that when you strip down below the media discourse, students love to learn about power, and how it works. Especially in the "bad" high schools.

WELCOME, nathaniel...I'm sure you will find lots to discuss with the members of TVNL. I'm glad you're here and I'm glad you're a teacher of US History. You must be a seeker of truth, else you probably wouldn't have registered!

Hi nathaniel. One of my friends is a retired social studies teacher--and his garage is lined with maps. I hear about it all the time--his wife can't understand what he sees in those maps...

I fear for our country with all the misinformation that is being peddled by main stream media. The computer seems to be the only place to find anything about truth, and that usually comes from foreign news organizations. Your students are fortunate--they have a teacher who wants them to know the truth rather than live in dreamland where so many people have decided to park their futures.

The way you phrased all of your into really, really made me think of 1984 (yes, I know the analogy is becoming cliche at this point), but you remember how they took so many words out of the language so it would be impossible to have complex thoughts?
