It's laughable that the Nation's Katha Pollitt wants to waste blog space whining about negative comments in response to her tirade against Cindy Sheehan for making the decision to launch a primary campaign against Nancy Pelosi for standing in the way of impeachment. Laughable, because she is admonishing Sheehan for perceived whining in her letter to Nation editor Katrina Vanden Heuvel.

I've got to hand it to the Rude Pundit: he sure knows how to propose a rock-solid idea. If only the Democratic National Committee weren't so laden with DLCers, and had more Kucinich types, the national agendas of ending the Iraq war and impeaching Bush and Cheney might stand a snowball's chance in hell.

Bush's Iraq swagger a distant memory

Michael, this commentary contains a list of recent books that have come out about the fiasco that has been created in Iraq because of Bush's arrogance and stupidity....among a mountain of other things.

As to impeachment, one of the responses was spot-on:

Quote:
Dear Jack:

Why don't you ask the Senators why Cheney and Bush aren't being Impeached? Ask questions like:

Are you being blackmailed?
Have any of your pets died recenty?
How many times have you changed your home phone number?
Do you know where your children are?
do you know where your grandchildred are?
Are you sure?

When we say Impeach, our representatives hear, "The I word is the kiss of death." We're dealing with the biggest mobsters in the world.
sara swa

A few more:

Quote:
Senator Reid described our invasion of Iraq as one of the "worst foreign policy blunders in our history." He was wrong.

When an administration deliberately manipulates or ignores intelligence in order to start a war in which tens of thousands of people have died and then refuses to end that war, it is not a blunder. It is a crime, and the constitution is very specific about what the remedy should be.

W's swagger is a "distant memory"? Yesterday he arrived (with 3 jumbojets and 2 other jets) in Australia with the Presidential message that "we are kicking ass in Iraq." Make that a recent memory in a distant place. Not distant enough, unfortunately.
Richard Young

Quote:
When he smiles, senators laugh.
When he cries, on the shoulder of God, little children in the streets of Baghdad die

Congress does not want to impeach him for they know he will hang himself with his own rope.

And then what? He gets to walk away from the mess he created, never paying for his crimes, and it's left to the rest of us to clean it all up. There's a thing called justice, and woe to any politician who denies it to an outraged American public. Example: Gerald Ford.
