Personally, I don't understand why so many of the Generals in question leaned so heavily away from the side of being perceived as a maverick. To the detriment of the security of the United States, it's painfully obvious that there aren't that many Smedley Butlers among the ranks of U.S. Generals anymore. It might be interesting to know why.
But as part of the historical record, this most-recent statement does corroborate the theme articulated independently by other insiders, which is the Khmer Rouge-esque incompetence
