I may be completely in error, Cat.

I thought it was you who said the Bible says nothing about abortion and that women should consider man as the head of the household.

If I'm wrong then I have to apologize to you. I am sorry and as far as I am concerned - The matter is closed. I will not try to force my opinions on anyone.

I wasen't feeling insulted or picked on.

What I done was - go back three pages and listed what was posted - period.

I came to the conclusion that I was being accused of being precisly what the authors were guilty of doing . I just happened to feel, the brunt of their anger because I dare to think for myself and form my own opinions, that do not coincide with theirs.

No problem tho. Since all think I am trying to force them to believe what I say is what they should believe - it's finished.

Ok..finishing at this point might be a wise thing to do. Sometimes discussions that can't be continued productively and/or collegially are best left on the shelf for awhile. However, thanks for addressing what you were talking about at the beginning of your thread. At least that's cleared up. :)

Looks like Mike Huckabee agrees:

Huckabee: wives should ‘graciously submit’ to husbands.

In June 1998, the Southern Baptist Convention issued a “statement on the family” that asserted, “A wife is to submit herself graciously to the servant leadership of her husband even as the church willingly submits to the headship of Christ.” Two months later, then-governor of Arkansas Mike Huckabee was one of 131 signatories to a full-page ad in USA Today specifically endorsing the Convention’s view on marriage:

You are right because you called wives to graciously submit to their husband’s sacrificial leadership.

As Andrew Sullivan notes, “The group did not back away from the ad after a media firestorm. It seems to me that Huckabee should be asked if he still stands by that. And if he thinks it applies to Senator Clinton.”

Yeah....Huckabee and a few others in our country would like to be able to "ring that bell" and send women back to the days when women were basically owned by the men in their lives.

What do you suppose their reactions are to this awful story:

GIRL DIES AFTER HEADSCARF DISPUTE WITH DAD

i read the same version of the bible as dee does.

however, i tend to disagree with how those people like huckabee usually interperet gods holy word.

for the most part i've found that they tend to cherry pick certain parts of scripture out of the entire context of the bible and then use those quotes to back up thier agenda. they tend to forget/ignore other passages that may conflict with the ones they like to use.

my wife is not a piece of property given to me by the almighty.

but i do honor her and thank the good lord for blessing me with the opportunity to be joined with her as i walk down the path he has laid out for me. when she and i make decisions we give each other the power to over rule each other if one of us feels strongly that a certain decision may be the wrong one. we are partners.

the interperetation of gods word is a truely weighty issue. my stance is that for one thing, the finite knowledge of the human mind doesn't have the capability to fathom/understand the mind of god.

like i said, it's a wieghty issue.

See, thats the problem with religion, since its not based in/on anything real, its followers are pretty much free to make it up as they go along.

We created the idea of some mystical being in order to explain the world around us, and we then later learned we can use it to control and manipulate people.

Its just all a sack off bullarky and it need to just disappear from the minds of people forever.

One of the heads of the SBC clarifies Huckabee's waffling:

Not exactly, according to a man who may be the Southern Baptist's leading authority on the statement. Richard Land, president of the SBC's Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, helped draft the statement. According to Land, the statement says that while the husband and wife are equal before God, "the wife does not get veto power over the husband's decision."

"Somebody has to be in charge," Land explained. "The Bible says the husband is in charge." While the husband should "solicit his wife's views," ultimately "he is going to make the decision."
...

Yep..if it's one thing that the bible and fundamentalist men can't tolerate, it's a woman who takes control.
