Independent - Monks confined in a room with their own excrement for days, people beaten just for being bystanders at a demonstration, a young woman too traumatised to speak, and screams in the night as Rangoon's residents hear their neighbours being taken away.
Harrowing accounts smuggled out of Burma reveal how a systematic campaign of physical punishment and psychological terror is being waged by the Burmese security forces as they take revenge on those suspected of involvement in last month's pro-democracy uprising.
The first-hand accounts describe a campaign hidden from view, but even more sinister and terrifying than the open crackdown in which the regime's soldiers turned their bullets and batons on unarmed demonstrators in the streets of Rangoon, killing at least 13. At least then, the world was watching.

Torture will be the order of the day. Resistance is futile when silence makes one complicit. Be good little Germans now and let those robber barons spread their disease all over the world. What can one do to stand up to it? Accept torture as inevitable and get in line. Or perhaps they will just come and kick in your doors late at nite to invite you to a going away party.
Nice and so much fun- there's sex and watersports too!

Human pyramids and surfboards- no waterboards too! America's new pasttime and gift to the world. WOW. Oh, I forgot the magic tricks too- where they make you disappeared. Smoke and mirrors be damnned- this is the ultimate reality. Ask anyone at Abu Ghraib or Gitmo. Fun and games for all. Well maybe not all. Maybe they'll invite your children along like they do to Iraqi children and booger them with glowsticks while parents watch, pleading with them to kill them and leave their children alone.
America's progressive stance means obedience or death and that is the future for all of us. Freedom to be silent and choose to be slaves, or worse?. Nice mmmmmmm warm and cozy when you do nothing wrong. Doing nothing is the key and who decides what is doing nothing is the rub. Bet those buddhist monks thought they were somehow immune? Like the Tibetans probably did also.
Oh well, just keep doing nothing- these things have a way of coming home eventually. Ask any good Roman. Right, they're all dead.
Silence is complicity.
