TVNL members who are getting all that snow...what's it like and how are you coping?

I've not seen a BIG snow since 1993!

Got a few more inches in Denver.

Cloud, cloudy and snowy weather. I just love it. Perfect weather for reading a great book.

Stone Cold by David Baldacci....one of his best ever. Probably the best.

One of most enjoyable days in some time. I'd give it a 9.

I'll be on the lookout for that book at the public library...my home away from home!

Nothing like a warm fire, a cup of hot chocolate, and a good book on a snowy day. I'm glad you like the snow. Our son and his family are visiting us right now from Vermont. They're tired of snow.

Have you read any of Lee Child's books, PT? If not, start with "The Killing Floor." If you like it, read the rest of his books sequentially. I give all of his books a 10 on a scale of 0-10.

On Edit: It is now raining, pouring! Freezing rain. Yuch. I love snow, but not freezing rain!

For once we dodged the bullet completely here in Baltimore. I was looking forward to a weekend of snow, and only got a few hours of cold, miserable rain.

It's awful to be sick with those types of illnesses, rooster. Hope you're feeling better. dori, I hope you don't lose power, but freezing rain is a good way to do it! GR, you're in the same situation we're in..just cold, windy, and raw outside. No SNOW at all! We got a tiny snow shower about ten o'clock this morning, but now it's just one of those days that makes me want to do what Purple Tang was doing yesterday...curling up with a good book and letting the world go by!

Wish I could...but not today...or tomorrow...probably not all this week! :( ARRGGGGHHHHHH!

I love snow (as long as I am in a warm place). We had that cold, cold snow before this last storm, the kind that sparkles like a million gems when light hits it.

If it is artificial light, the gems are all diamonds. Sunlight often breaks the color pattern and makes it look like a field of many colors, all pure and genuine. It is so beautiful!

But I do feel for those who have to drive in winter, it is miserable.

It's all melted now. For the third year in a row, northern Illinois has had a complete meltdown in the middle of January. Being an icefisherman, I am sensitive to long term changes in the winter climate in this area. Until a few years ago, we would have ice up to 1 1/2 feet thick on our lakes from mid-December until mid-March. Those days appear to be gone for good.

Yeah, devastating tornadoes in N. Illinois and S. Wisconsin in January. Go figure.

Looks like I was wrong about the days of ice covered lakes being gone for good. After our big thaw, we have been in the deep freeze for about three weeks. Looks like global warming was just an urban legend after all.

One of the weather people said the lakes are not frozen over yet though.

The odd thing about this weather is how fast it changes. Too warm one day, too cold the next. And storms all over the place.

And polar bears are still having a hard time.
