You mean like WW2? Where a high % of returning veterans were diagnosed with Mental Disorders similar to the unknown PTSD?
The term meaningful war is a misnomer indeed and at best a conundrum. Name one meaningful war which wasn't about lying, cheating and stealing for the colonizer! Reminding us that war has meaning is
Quote:
a recovery of historical memories that a psychoanalyst might term a "return of the repressed."
Well we are the repressed and the oppressed so what else should we do but love, honour and obey - swallow deception? Yummy!
Seems it doesn't stop with age-

Significant numbers of World War II veterans with no previous history of mental health problems were starting to suffer nightmares, a psychiatrist said today.
Dr Michael Robertson, the director of the Mayo-Wesley Centre for mental health at Taree in NSW, said veterans in their eighties were showing signs of late onset Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) more than half a century after their war service ended.
While cases of PTSD after war service are not unusual, Dr Robertson said there had been little research into older veterans
suffering symptoms decades later "largely because it probably hasn't emerged yet".
"We're ... seeing a large number of older veterans. Quite a lot of them are presenting with nightmares, intrusive memories of the
war which are quite disabling for them," Dr Robertson told AAP.
"This is the first time that they've ever had anything like this in
their life and this has been corroborated by their spouse.
"Inquiry has found that there's really been no evidence of mental
ill-health up until this point."
Something Vietnam vets will be looking forward to as well?
Quote:
He said an example was a World War II veteran who tried to rescue a number of sailors from a sinking ship only to watch them perish.
"He had to be hospitalised when the Kursk submarine tragedy was on," said Dr Robertson, who presented his findings to the
College of Psychiatrists congress in Canberra today.
"It's just very sad that these older fellows went through so much and they're having to spend their last years terrorised by it."
The problems appear to be triggered when a veteran retires, becomes ill or suffers family problems.
The history of the term goes way back, but some of the terms recounted are-
Quote:
The mental anguish resulting from combat is well chronicled. After the Civil War, it was known as “soldier's heart.” In World War One it was labeled” shellshock.” Veterans of World War Two and Korea were described as suffering from “battle fatigue.” After Vietnam it became Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
The American Psychiatric Association officially acknowledged PTSD in 1980. Symptoms include emotional numbing, quick tempers and re-experiencing traumatic situations through flashbacks. Such Symptoms may not surface for years but emerge with a disruptive vengeance.
People with acute PTSD typically recover in three to six months, but chronic PTSD can remain for decades. Combat situations in Afghanistan and Iraq are already generating psychological casualties at an alarming rate.
http://intrepidliberaljournal.blogspot. ... ivors.htmlYou'd think old soldiers just fade away without regrets and so no one ever really gave credence or any research into what was really happening.
Quote:
"From a psychological point of view, people regard old age as a time when you have to put your life in perspective, you have
to put everything in order, so perhaps late in life they're having to confront things that happen because in the early parts of their
adulthood they've been working or they've been too busy.
"Others might think that perhaps the brain ages. There's a part of the brain called the hippocampus which starts to degenerate,
maybe there's something to do with that.
"As in most things, we tend to say there's biological, psychological and social reasons why these things happen."
Meanwhile we continue to believe in just, meaningful wars as our leaders reap the profits and the people continue to be propagandized as to their real purpose and in the end still suffer from their decisions, fed usually by lust for revenge, anger, hatred- in other words- FEAR.
Just so happens I got an elders saying today on this very subject-
Quote:
"In sharing, in loving all and everything, one people naturally found a due portion of the thing they sought, while in fearing, the other found need of conquest."
--Chief Luther Standing Bear, SIOUX
There are two systems of thought that are available for us to choose from. One is the love-thought system and the other is the fear- thought system. If we choose love, we will see the laws, principles and values of the Creator. If we choose fear, the results will be so paralyzing that it will cause us to take over and not rely on the Great Spirit. The fear-thought system will automatically cause attack, conflict, need to control over others. The love-thought system seeks peace of mind, unity and causes us to be love seekers.
Great Spirit, today let me see only love.
Meditate over that one and find its fault. Asking us to be emotional in a positive sense is not in our governments totalitarian mind control vocabulary.
Seems that the only meaningful war would be a war against war and end it forever. Perhaps the true meaning of war is absence of love and an overbearing preponderance of fear defeats all reality, while creating a grim reality of human primitive psychotic behaviour.
No wonder they send us to war- they don't trust our dark side, so they let us practice at war regularily, and get good and

ed by it so we don't turn it onto them, our real enemies to peace.
But then again it could be "because there's biological, psychological and social reasons why these things happen"- like our misguiding family values.
That is certainly a main wedge our leaders use against us to enact their fears after all, and fear is the great mindkiller that leads to wars, meaningful or not.
So who really suffers in war seems to have no end for the participants, those brave souls who give their bodies and minds as well to the nightmare of our dark sides desires. We have to feed on flesh and brains, like the walking dead we are. Who says we don't perform blood sacrifices! So what if a few people suffer- the ends justify the means, for the greater good of that 1% who profit and promote the existence of meaningful wars.
What did Bernays say about the masses-
stupid and
idiots are two of his favorite terms.
Dangerous and
monstrous was the reason he saw to keep them that way. I guess we are what we are after all and believing that war is meaningful certainly describes those four words pretty well when describing We, the people. They have us figured out, so why can't we figure their game out? Oh yeah, right- stupid and idiots seems to sum it up rather succinctly.
"But when if you give them free will, you have to lie to them." - Bernays
I found this article about propaganda and the First world war- my highlights-
Quote:
... from Harold Lasswell’s Propaganda Technique in World War I (New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1927):
Propaganda is a concession to the rationality of the modern world. A literate world, a reading world, a schooled world, prefers to thrive on argument and news. It is sophisticated to the extent of using print; and he that takes to print shall live or perish by the Press. All the apparatus of diffused erudition popularizes the symbols and forms of pseudo-rational appeal; the wolf of propaganda does not hesitate to masquerade in the sheepskin. All the voluble men of the day—writers, reporters, editors, preachers, lecturers, teachers, politicians—are drawn into the service of propaganda to amplify a master voice. All is conducted with the decorum and the trappery of intelligence, for this is a rational epoch, and demands its raw meat cooked and garnished by adroit and skillful chefs.
Propaganda is a concession to the willfulness of the age. The bonds of personal loyalty and affection which bound a man to his chief have long since dissolved Monarchy and class privilege have gone the way of all flesh, and the idolatry of the individual passes for the official religion of democracy. It is an atomized world, in which individual whims have wider play than ever before, and it requires more strenuous exertions to co-ordinate and unify than formerly. The new antidote to willfulness is propaganda. If the mass will be free of chains of iron, it must accept its chains of silver. If it will not love, honor and obey, it must not expect to escape seduction.
Propaganda is a reflex to the immensity, the rationality and willfulness of the modern world. It is the new dynamic of society, for power is subdivided and diffused, and more can be won by illusion than by coercion. It has all the prestige of the new and provokes all the animosity of the baffled. To illuminate the mechanisms of propaganda is to reveal the secret springs of social action, and to expose to the most searching criticism our prevailing dogmas of sovereignty, of democracy, of honesty, and of the sanctity of individual opinion. (pp. 198-199)
http://nielsenhayden.com/makinglight/ar ... 07671.htmlBack to Bernays-
Quote:
"If we understand the mechanisms and motives of the group mind, it is now possible to control and regiment the masses according to our will without their knowing it," he argued in Propaganda, one of his first books. In a later book, he coined the term "engineering of consent" to describe his technique for controlling the masses.
"The conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organized habits and opinions of the masses is an important element in democratic society," Bernays argued. "Those who manipulate this unseen mechanism of society constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power of our country. . . . In almost every act of our daily lives, whether in the sphere of politics or business, in our social conduct or our ethical thinking, we are dominated by the relatively small number of persons . . . who understand the mental processes and social patterns of the masses. It is they who pull the wires which control the public mind."
This definition of "democratic society" is itself a contradiction in terms--a theoretical attempt to reconcile rule by the few with the democratic system which threatened (and still threatens) the privileges and powers of the governing elite. On occasion, Bernays himself recoiled from the anti-democratic implications of his theory.

The father of Spin indeed!
America has made its fortunes on the backs of slaves and has waged its wars overtly and covertly since its inception. If you want to prove to the Ron Paul supporters that they are being fooled by the belief that the constitution must be adhered to, then why did the founding fathers engage in wars for wealth and land against foreigners if they warned about foreign incursions? America's wealth and great power would not be realized without involvements both domestic and foreign. Too bad everyone has figured out the great lies and now has forced American Imperialism out where all can see it.
That people pull war out of the closet whenever they need it is the real tragedy, for eventually who loses at war may be you, or you, or Y-O-USA. Now the only people being deceived seem to be the American people and boy, are we up for a rude awakening. The only meaningful part and justifiably so seems to be those who stand up to our fluid modernity and its tsunami effects. But then again, how dare they stand up to us- we're here to help them.

Oh right they're terrorists and insurgents, when they're not us or on our side and defending their country from our modern colonizing practices where we pretend to be the defenders and somehow we, the people(read-stupids) believe that shit.
I guess we are the real losers at war as the participants who give our rulers the justification to use us as slaves for their designs. After all, they've been getting away with it for years, telling us about meaningful wars, and getting us to do the fighting is their favorite deception and we swallow it every time. What supreme BS.
