One of the purposes for this forum is to post any petitions we might get in our emails or discover at other sites. This will give us an opportunity to sign them all. Please date them, so we know which ones are old AND delete them when they're out-dated.

League of Conservation Voters
October 12, 2006

Today George Bush declared the November election would be about two things: the economy and national security.

After three disastrous years in Iraq, we all know the key to both issues is an energy plan that reduces our dependence on Mideast oil.

The League of Conservation Voters wants Congress to adopt a serious energy plan now. Please join me in signing their petition.

PETITION

Encourage International Paper to Fix Our Paper Packaging Problem

Packaging symbolizes the disposable society we have become. More than half of all paper produced in the United States is used in paper packaging.
As a result, in the U.S. we generate 300 pounds of packaging waste per person each year and 32% of the entire domestic waste stream consists of containers and packaging. Because the Southern U.S. is the largest paper producing region in the world, and more than half of all paper production goes to paper packaging, our society's decisions about packaging directly impact Southern forests.

The paper packaging industry needs reform. We must reduce the amount of paper in packaging; increase post consumer fiber used for packaging; and ensure that paper products are not coming from endangered forests.

Ask International Paper, the largest paper company to lead their industry in reforming!

Goal: 10,000
Deadline: Ongoing...

Iceland is a stunning, pristine land that attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists each year, many of them to go whale watching in the clear arctic waters. Greenpeace has launched a "Whale tourism pledge" -- a promise to visit Iceland if the government stops whaling.

With every tourist worth an average of US$ 1,169 to the Icelandic economy, the tens of thousands of pledges to date represent more than 100 million USD in potential tourist revenue for Iceland -- against a commercial whaling programme which was worth less than 4 million USD per annum in its prime in the 1980s, and is today effectively worthless.

Help convince Iceland that whales are worth more alive than dead.

Wolves

The Bush administration is poised to remove wolves from the endangered species list, allowing Wyoming, Idaho, and Montana to kill more than 80 percent of the wolves in the northern Rockies.

If this happens, wolves may once again face the brink of extinction after years of recovery. We urgently need your help.

The Wyoming Plan, for example, allows anyone to kill any wolf that wanders outside a small area in the northwest corner of the state. The plan would even target animals who live for most of the year in Yellowstone National Park but wander out in the winter in search of food!

Please sign the petition to Congress and tell them that you oppose the slaughter of wolves in the northern Rockies!

Scientists have already warned that a few thousand wolves are necessary to ensure the long-term survival of the species, but the Wyoming Plan completely ignores the science and goes against the will of most Americans who support wolf recovery efforts.

Sign the petition to protect wolves.

Thank you on behalf of all wolf mothers and their pups in the northern Rockies.
