Do all of you have romantic plans for your 2008 Valentine? Have things changed for any of you romantically since this thread began in 2007?

Nope.

Well, I'm subbing in the most evil 2nd grade class on the planet on V day. AND I get to be there for their party. Nothing like a bunch of sugared up kids who hate each other all in one room.

Ahh, nothing like romance.

(By the way, I love subbing and love most of the kids at the school, this particular class is just really, really, really bad: I'm talking punching each other, kicking, hitting, stealing...oh the list goes on and on and on.)

Sorry, lefty...don't mean to not take your subbing situation seriously. It's because I KNOW what you're talking about! There's nothing like second grade monsters. I taught second grade for eight years!

Do you ever wonder if their parents allow them to watch nothing but violence on television and play violent games on their computers? They don't seem to have any regard for the other little human beings except as obstacles in their paths. Can you tell them that, if they want a Valentine's celebration, they'll have to demonstrate that they deserve to have such a privilege?

I used to tell my students early in the school year that my job was to teach them the NC standard course of study and their job was to learn it. The NCSCS did not include parties and other types of privileges. Whether or not they got privileges was entirely up to them. The power to CHOOSE had just been given to them along with the responsibility of the results of their choices.

It worked for me but didn't always work for other teachers.

I remember sadie's posts about teaching now vs teaching formerly. The quality of human behavior seems to have gone down recently. Wonder why that is?

I've not seen Sadie around lately. I've sent her a pm and I hope she's ok and about to complete her graduate work.

That photo of a box of chocolates reminded me of the birthday gift my husband received from one of his friends: a huge box of petit fours from Swiss Colony!

We ate those delicate little sweets for a couple of weeks. They were so rich, I limited myself to only a couple a day.

Petit fours from Swiss Colony was my mother's gift to herself every Christmas for years. She loved them!

They are so pretty too. Would make a great Valentine's gift.

A guy walks into a post office one day to see a middle-aged, balding man
standing at the counter methodically placing "Love" stamps on bright
pink envelopes with hearts all over them. He then takes out a perfume
bottle and starts spraying scent all over them. His curiosity getting
the better of him, he goes up to the balding man and asks him what he is
doing. The man says "I'm sending out 1,000 Valentine cards signed,
'Guess who?'"

"But why?" asks the man.


"I'm a divorce lawyer," the man replies.

A belated rose for Valentine's Day to all the ladies at TVNL.
