Here are a few I have bumped into:

* Compact flourescent bulbs use 1/4th as much energy and screw right in. Available in 40, 60, and 100 watt configurations while using just 9, 13, and 25 watts. You can't go wrong at the low price they sell for these days. I stocked up at $1/each and they are cheaper now.

* Close heater vent and door for unused rooms.

* You may be able to get a seldom used business land line routed into a cell phone and keep the same number. This turns a $55/mt line into a portable $30/mt line.

* Buy de-icer in bags instead of buckets.

* Light rail is 100 times better than the bus....which almost everybody hates. Give it a try and save parking fees.

* 'Used' clothes. I just started trying this recently. It is pretty easy to find clothes that were never or hardly worn.

* Get your anti-oxidants from pomegranite juice instead of wine.

* Turn down temperature on hot water heater. Don't take vacations in the shower. Yea...I know its irresistible.

* Shut down the cable or satellite. After all, we all know that TVnewslies.

* Buy books that are older and now sell for about half price. Does a couple years really make a big difference?

* Video was great a few years ago. Still works fine. I bought video movies for less than $1/each from a store that was getting rid of them.

* I'm thinking of selling my 61" TV and using a much smaller one. I still watch movies quite a bit.

What discoveries have you?

This regime is costing many people additional hundreds/month. The repercussions of this lawless, murderous cabal will be felt for a long time.

I love the magazine Real Simple. It has some interesting money saving tips at this link, although it's a bit outdated showing stamps at 39 cents. With stamps going up another penny soon, it's still relevant!

Speaking of books, I like mine free....from the Library! :D

This isn't about saving money per se, but it tells how to find who owns certain phone numbers:

Hmmmmm....$40 for a year of service.

I am quite tempted as I get so many strange calls that I hardly ever answer. That costs me money of course since potential customers like to get their call answered.
Peace of mind trumps everything however.

Can't you get Caller ID from your phone company as a part of your monthly bill?

I have Caller ID. I am haunted by long distance calls from unknown sources. Mostly machines that continue to rattle on despite my answering the phone.

I got an "urgent call" at 8:15pm on Sunday night from the "Democratic Headquarters." Nothing is that urgent on a Sunday night in February other than a fundraisers cut.

Nonsense calls are the bane of my existence.

Let an answering machine answer all calls. Or are customers afraid of them? I know a lot of people who are. Unfortunately, nuisance callers never are.

Sometimes if there is a short pause after you've said hello, it's a computer calling you.

Right now, the political fundraising calls are cranking up fulltime, so be prepared...to say NO or YES. :P

One of the features I have on my line is called a Privacy Manager. Calls from unknown sources or that carry no ID are automatically rejected and told they have to release their ID to get through. The phone never even rings and it is handled at the central switching office of the phone company. The in-laws normally have their ID masked but to get a call in have to unmask their ID to talk to the wife.
