Both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama’s health-care plans contain some form of mandate—a requirement that Americans purchase insurance. At least one legal scholar wonders whether that’s constitutional. At the very least, Karl Manheim argues, it’s “certainly unprecedented.”

When a citizen and his money part company involuntarily, it is a TAX no matter what rosy description it is given. Mandates for payments to private insurance companies just remove the government as the middleman. Auto liability insurance is a legal requirement in most states; car ownership is not. Making health insurance a requirement is a way for the government to duck their responsibilities for the general welfare; the working poor get shafted once again. This will only make staying healthy something the rich can afford and the poor will languish in disease and death because they decided eating and having a roof were more important than health insurance payments. This just goes to show how far right Clinton and Obama are; not liberals at all in the true nature of the beast.

If we're going to be REQUIRED to be medically insured, then the government should establish a National Health Care policy. Not sure how it would be financed fairly, but private coverage should only be a choice, not a requirement.
