I don't mind that half as much as the picking of my children's and grandchildren's pockets that is going on to pay for this war. The profiteers don't have to wait to line their pockets. This war is paid for entirely on credit, that is why the credit crisis is here.

Peace activists withhold taxes

April 15th, 2008 9:02 pm
By Elizabeth Ganga / Journal News

"We've been out and marched and protested and contacted members of Congress, did all the things we were supposed to do as citizens of our democracy, and it wasn't having any effect," said Ethan Vesely-Flad, 40, who works at Fellowship of Reconciliation in Upper Nyack, a peace-and-justice group committed to nonviolence.

They began to think more deeply about the connections between the money they pay to the government and how it flows to military purposes. So last year for the first time the couple held back 51 percent of their federal tax check and deposited it in an escrow account in protest. The 51 percent is the amount peace groups calculate is going to the current war, the general Defense Department budget and other military-related spending.

This is from the news links at the main page of TVNL:

The Internal Revenue Service expects to lose more than $37 million by using private debt collectors to pursue tax scofflaws through a program that has outraged consumers and led to charges on Capitol Hill that the agency is wasting money for work that IRS agents could do more effectively.

TVNL Comment: Privatization is all about looting the nation. That's it. This is the Republican agenda...to steal everything that exists! Nobody hates democracy more than Republicans.

Thank you for that link Catherine. Tom Reynolds had a hissy-fit on the floor of the House over this. He threw out numbers and whatever else he could come up with to try to impress the C-Span watchers. It impressed me that he can do a wonderful clown imitation when the price is right.

Here goes another letter to the editor...
