I've been trying to get a feel for this on the web: How long after giving birth can a mother return to work, safely?

I think the consensus is a number of weeks. Yet, Sarah Palin supposedly went back to work within three days of supposedly giving birth to her latest.

She must be one super baby making machine!

The other thing I'm wondering about is how her employer let her get away with that.

I thought work places like to know well in advance when you are expecting to have the kid because the work places want to plan for absences and family medical stuff kick in.

Someone who has a few other kids before that would have been more responsible.

Palin was supposedly back to work the next day after having daughter Piper:

Well, she just "had" the baby this last spring, so I'm guessing she was her own boss since she's the gov'ner up them parts.

Its seems very weird and inappropriate. Why on earth would a grown woman try to hide that she was pregnant until she was basically in labor?

You mean she didn't just squat down and bounce her off the floor? She wouldn't have to miss any work at all that way.

Well, let's see...if Palin becomes VP, she'll probably be pregnant again within a year of taking office...she'll want to have one last baby so she can say one more time that she's doing God's will, which will make her so attractive to the extreme religious right when she runs for president after McSame's two terms are over.

So, we will be able to determine if she's telling the truth. Allegedly, she had Piper and came back to work the next day, lugging newborn along. She had Trig (the Downs Syndrome child, I think) and came back to work in three days...(well, she is a bit older now). If she has another one, and her Chinese birthing schedule continues, she ought to return to work (do vice presidents work?) within at least four days.

That's the only way we'll know for sure...and that ain't sayin' a lot 'cause these are Rethugs we're talkin' about!
