Wikipedia, and Common Dreams .org , have one of the few articles on the Technical U.S. State of Emergency that has existed since 9/11/2001.
This State of Emergency is still in effect, but must be renewed periodically by the President, and approved by Congress.
I think that it gives the power to the President to seize property.
The U.S. Media knows this, and may fear shutdowns of its organizations if they don't tow-the-line.

Welcome to the board, leftblank....and that is an interesting article. How do you feel about it? Are you concerned that the president is going to seize property sometime in the near future? It seems to me that the emergency plan is designed to target terrorists and those who support them. My concern is just who is determined to be a terrorist. When George W. Bush and Dick Cheney held the reins of power, their interpretation of a "terrorist" might have been anyone who disagreed with them...you will recall all that rhetoric of how you're either "with us or against us."

Quote:
A separate announcement on the White House website states:

"Because the actions of these persons who commit, threaten to commit, or support terrorism continue to pose an unusual and extraordinary threat to the United States, the national emergency declared on September 23, 2001, and the measures adopted on that date to deal with that emergency, must continue in effect beyond September 23, 2007. Therefore, in accordance with section 202(d) of the National Emergencies Act (50 U.S.C. 1622(d)), I am continuing for 1 year the national emergency with respect to persons who commit, threaten to commit, or support terrorism."

Well, for one thing, I'm concerned that, we don't generally now have a free press, and I think this has something to do with it.
For another thing, I'm concerned for the internet as a source for the remaining free press, as this link, and others like it, are so hard to find !
And third, none of the media will let me on the air to announce this link, and that includes Mike Malloy, and Bob Kincaid, of whom I have often e-mailed, and called (O.K., so I just e-mailed Bob Kincaid -- I didn't call him) !!!

And a "State of Emergency" is a "State of Emergency", with all it entails !
Why not declare something lesser ???

Welcome, leftblank. Good to see you.

Our media is anything but free. We have corporate media and they toe the line for corporations. Cenk Uykur just found that out the hard way--he was escorted away from his MSNBC 6 PM anchor chair because he wasn't properly toeing the line. He was going to be downgraded but decided he would rather just leave. He had a good show.

We have three kinds of programming, bad, worse, and dreadful. I do like Current though, and Keith Olbermann's show. I think there are plans to have more people on the network that can 'tell it like it is'. One bright spot is better than nothing, eh?

Hope you keep posting.
