in order to sustain life on earth as we know it, our planet earth must be in the exact position from a sun as it is now. it must also have a moon to prevent it from wobbling on it's axis for stability, it must also have the correct atmosphere to sustain life, as well as water, etc etc. this combination of all these is what gives life on our planet. additionally, the planet must have the seasonal changes, as well as the right combination of plants. everything that is on earth is a contributing factor to the creation and continuation of life (as we know it).

to expect to find another planet with intelligent life on it means that we must also find another earth out there. the chances of finding one is very slim, so far most other planets are simply there....dead of life with conditions so harsh no intelligent life could exist. star trek was a nice program, but most planets they visited would hardly sustain life unless that planet was an exact replica of earth. what are the odds of finding one?

if there was any planet with intelligent life on it close to earth, they, or we, would have at least tried to contact each other. but, looking light years away into the universe, we have yet to find any.

we were just fortunate enough to be on earth as it travels thru it's life cycle. all planets die eventually, as will our planet earth. in the universe time is measured in billions of years...our average life cycle of maybe 75 years is hardly a drop in the bucket in the big picture.

so, what IF life is discovered elsewhere? then what? imagine the consequences that will trouble mankind's thinking. religions and science will have to completely rethink it's values and beliefs of origin.

I've come to the point of view that the reason it appears on the surface that we're "alone" is not because we're alone but because we're enslaved. Build a prison with no windows and let 20 generations of people live and die in there, and then ask them whether or not they believe they're "alone" in the universe.
