I am often asked why there have not been a lot of whistle blowers coming forward regarding the events of 9/11/2001. After pointing out the fact that there are many whistle blowers I have to inform people that people who blow the whistle on government wrongdoing must often expose government secrets. This is a crime and they can go to prison for this.

Now the U.S. Supreme Court has decided that the Constitutional freedoms related to speech do not extend to government employees. Well guess what! The U.S. Supreme Court just strengthened the ability of high ranking government officials to cover up their own crimes!

We have a government in which people can commit crimes and they can declare as top secret all evidence related to those crimes. Ladies and gentleman, we have an official, fully operational governmental system designed to facilitate the abuse of power via high crimes.

· Iraq PM declares state of emergency in Basra - Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki on Wednesday declared a state of emergency for a month in oil-rich Basra which is in the grip of a power struggle among Shi'ite factions.

· Latest Iraq Bombing Kills 5 Policemen - A parked car packed with explosives hit a police patrol in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul on Wednesday, killing at least five policemen and wounding 14, including a senior officer, as violence continued unabated after one of the bloodiest days in recent weeks.

· Insurgent attacks in Iraq at highest level in 2 years - The vast majority of the attacks -- from crude bombing attempts and shootings to more sophisticated, military-style assaults and suicide attacks -- were targeted at US-led coalition military forces, but the majority of deaths have been of civilians, who are far more vulnerable to insurgent tactics.

· U.S. military says two Iraqi women shot to death - The statement came after Iraqi police said a pregnant woman and her cousin were killed by American troops as they were driving to a maternity hospital in Samarra, a predominantly Sunni city 60 miles north of Baghdad.

· 49 killed in string of attacks in Iraq - Car bombs and other attacks killed at least 49 people Tuesday across Iraq as the government struggled with deteriorating security. The deadliest bombing occurred at a popular market during the evening in Husseiniyah, about 20 miles north of Baghdad, killing at least 25 people and wounding 65, said Lt. Colonel Falah al-Mohamedawi, an Interior Ministry spokesman.

· ELECTROMAGNETIC WEAPON USED TO SLAUGHTER IRAQIS - few weeks after the April 2003 battle for the Baghdad Airport, American filmmaker Patrick Dillon learned of a mysterious weapon that had slaughtered men, women and children, microwave-cooked them in their mini-bus The Iraqi doctors to whom the horror was rushed had never seen anything like it: no entry wounds, eyes fried, skin burnt off where exposed, but unharmed under clothing; decapitations. Dillon’s witness, Majid al Ghezali, first violinist in the city orchestra, took Dillon to the site of the crime, near the airport. · Iraq PM impatient with US troops killing civilians - Iraq's prime minister said on Tuesday his patience was wearing thin with excuses from U.S. troops that they kill civilians by "mistake" and said he would launch an investigation into killings at Haditha last year.

· New Policy Adviser Admits Altering Text - Karl Zinsmeister, President Bush's new domestic policy adviser, acknowledged he did something wrong when he took a newspaper profile of himself, altered quotes and text, and then posted it on a Web site without noting the changes.

· Former Lobbyist Testifies Against Official - The aide, Neil Volz, who was a partner of Abramoff's at the time, also outlined how the Abramoff team received assistance from several Republican congressmen including, Rep. Bob Ney, R-Ohio, Rep. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., Rep. Don Young, R-Alaska, and Rep. Steven LaTourette, R-Ohio.

· Dollar plunges on Paulson appointment - The US dollar fell sharply on Tuesday as Hank Paulson, Goldman Sachs’ chief executive, was named as the new US Treasury secretary, replacing the increasingly pressurised John Snow.

· Interest rates of U.S. Treasury bills up this week - Separately, the U.S. Federal Reserve said Tuesday that the average yield for one-year Treasury bills, a popular index for making changes in adjustable rate mortgages, also edged up to 4.99 percent last week from 4.98 percent the previous week.
