Trump: ‘I’m really not trolling’ with talk of Canada as 51st state

51st statePresident Trump in an interview published Friday was adamant that he is serious about his talk of adding Canada as the 51st state, something Canadian leaders have outright rejected.

The president sat down for an interview with Time magazine, during which a reporter suggested Trump may have been “trolling a little bit” with his repeated comments that Canada should be absorbed into the United States.

“Actually, no, I’m not,” Trump said in the interview, which was conducted Tuesday.

“I think Canada, what you said that, ‘Well, that one, I might be trolling.’ But I’m really not trolling,” Trump added. “Canada is an interesting case.”

The president repeated his frequent claims that the U.S. is losing money to Canada because of trade deficits and that there is no need for America to import Canadian products.

Judge blocks Trump from withholding funds from 16 'sanctuary' cities, counties

Judge stops ban on sanctuary citiesA federal judge in San Francisco on Thursday blocked Donald Trump's administration from withholding federal funding from several so-called sanctuary jurisdictions that have declined to cooperate with the Republican president's hardline immigration crackdown.

U.S. District Judge William Orrick issued the injunction at the request of 16 cities and counties nationally led by San Francisco that in a lawsuit filed in February argued that the administration was unlawfully trying to force local officials to cooperate with federal immigration arrests.

Those jurisdictions include the cities of Minneapolis, New Haven, Portland, St. Paul, Santa Fe and Seattle. They argue that the administration is seeking to punish them for exercising their rights to limit the use of their resources for federal civil immigration enforcement.

'Vladimir, STOP!' Trump says as Putin launches worst attack on Ukraine in months

Ukraine cities bombedRussia launched one of the most devastating bombardments on Ukraine's major cities since the war began overnight Thursday, killing at least 12 people, hours after President Donald Trump said he believed he had struck deals with both sides to end the war.

“Vladimir, STOP!” Trump wrote on Truth Social after the attacks, referring to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“I am not happy with the Russian strikes on KYIV. Not necessary, and very bad timing,” Trump said. “5000 soldiers a week are dying. Lets get the Peace Deal DONE!”

Trump told reporters Thursday he believed Putin would listen to his plea to halt strikes on Ukraine. He said that while there was “a lot of hatred,” “bad blood” and “disgust” between Ukraine and Russia, they both wanted peace, “but they have to get to the table.” He said he believes both sides will ultimately reach a peace agreement and added that he wants it to happen quickly.

TVNL Comment:  Yeah, that'll do it.  Just yell loudly enough to frighten Vladamir. What a great negotiator!

Dozens of my family have been killed by Israel in Gaza, and now Ziyad, too. Only one thing gives me solace

Unwra worker dies in Gaza

My cousin Ziyad was too young to die. He was sleeping at home in Khan Younis refugee camp when the bombs fell just before midnight on Friday. After they heard the explosion, my cousins Mohammed and Moatsem ran to save him, they told me, but he had already died in his bed. He was 44.

Ziyad was a social worker for Unrwa, working with vulnerable families in Gaza’s refugee camps. Every summer when I visited Gaza from my home in Canada, he would buy my little son candies from Asa’ad’s shop – now gone with Asa’ad (who was killed in October 2023) – insisting that Gaza’s candies were the best in the world.

Trump-Appointed Judge Orders Second Immigrant Returned From El Salvador Prison

Judge GallagherA federal judge ruled Wednesday that a second man must be returned from the El Salvador megaprison where he was hastily deported by President Donald Trump’s administration in March.

The man, referred to in court documents by the pseudonym Cristian, was among those swept up by immigration officials and flown to a brutal facility where inmates are told they will never leave. Cristian, age 20, is a native of Venezuela.

The Trump administration has already been ordered to “facilitate” the return of another man who was on the flights, Kilmar Abrego Garcia, although he has remained in El Salvador while the administration fights to keep him there.

In Cristian’s case, Trump-appointed Judge Stephanie Gallagher nodded to Abrego Garcia and said “this Court will order Defendants to facilitate Cristian’s return to the United States.”

Donald Trump Targets Democratic Party Fundraising Platform ActBlue

ActBluePresident Donald Trump issued a memorandum on Thursday ordering the Department of Justice to investigate online political fundraising platforms with the intent of targeting Democratic Party fundraising platform ActBlue.

The memorandum specifically mentions ActBlue while using broader language in ordering an investigation into “online fundraising platforms.”

This is the latest in a series of targeted attacks by Trump against his perceived enemies, including law firms, nonprofits and former government officials. This, however, is the first time that he has taken aim at a part of the machinery of the Democratic Party. It is the clearest effort yet by Trump to use the power of the presidency to destabilize and hobble his political opposition. This follows his actions to eliminate or delegitimize all civil society entities that oppose, or could, oppose him.

Hegseth set up Signal on Pentagon office computer: Report

HegsethDefense Secretary Pete Hegseth reportedly directed a desktop computer in his Pentagon office be installed with the messaging app Signal, adding another layer to the controversy around his use of the encrypted messaging app, multiple outlets reported Thursday.

Hegseth earlier this year effectively “cloned” the Signal app on his personal cellphone to his computer as a way to get around blocks on the messaging app in classified areas, and to message people outside the Pentagon, The Washington Post first reported. Personal cell phones and electronics are not allowed in classified areas of the Pentagon.

Pentagon to restart gender-affirming care for transgender service members

pentagonThe Defense Department will resume providing gender-affirming care for service members, a blow to the Trump administration’s effort to eliminate transgender individuals from the U.S. military.

A Pentagon memo dated Monday and revealed Thursday states the department will restore surgical procedures and cross-sex hormone therapy to individuals, including dependents of troops, as first reported by Politico.

“Service members and all other covered beneficiaries 19 years of age or older may receive appropriate care for their diagnosis of [gender dysphoria], including mental health care and counseling and newly initiated or ongoing cross-sex hormone therapy,” according to the memo, signed by Stephen Ferrara, acting assistant secretary of Defense for health affairs. “Service members may also receive voice therapy and appropriate surgical procedures.”

The Pentagon did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Hill.

The directive comes after two federal judges last month blocked the Pentagon’s transgender service member ban and a third temporarily blocked the military from separating two transgender Air Force members in a more limited ruling,
