These are strange, devolutionary times, with moves underway to crank back the calendars and clocks to the 1800s and earlier. One of the movements is to plant religion back inside public schools, to ensure that Creationism is taught alongside science.
We could also stand around in the parking lot, pretend to be running a competitive race with the rest of the world, too -- but, why bother with that? We can do make-believe right inside schools, cut right to the chase!
What's All the Hubbub, Bub? Part 2
Kurt Haskell Exposes Government False Flag Operation During Underwear Bomber Sentencing
I became further saddened from this case, when Patrick Kennedy of the State Department during Congressional hearings, admitted that Umar was a known terrorist, was being followed, and the U.S. allowed him into the U.S. so that it could catch Umar’s accomplices. I was once again shocked and saddened when Michael Leiter of the National Counter terrorism Center admitted during these same hearings that intentionally letting terrorists into the U.S. was a frequent practice of the U.S. Government. I cannot fully explain my sadness, disappointment and fear when I realized that my government allowed an attack on me intentionally.
Charges dismissed; Josh Fox, director of 'Gasland' speaks out
This morning, the charge of "unlawful entry" brought against me was dismissed without condition. The US Attorney dropped the case, finding it baseless and without merit. Although this is a personal victory and I am very grateful and relieved at the US Attorney's decision, it serves as a painful reminder that we do not have rights unless we exercise them .
On February 1st, I was arrested, briefly jailed, and charged with "unlawful entry" for attempting to film a public hearing in the Science, Space and Technology committee. I did not enter unlawfully, I lined up outside just as everyone else did and walked in when the room opened.
Democratic Women Boycott House Contraception Hearing After Republicans Prevent Women From Testifying
This morning, Democrats tore into House Oversight Committee Chairman Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) for preventing women from testifying before a hearing examining the Obama administration’s new regulation requiring employers and insurers to provide contraception coverage to their employees.
Republicans oppose the administration’s rule and have sponsored legislation that would allow employers to limit the availability of birth control to women.
Oh, Baby: There May Be Arsenic in Your Formula
A new study suggests that organic brown rice syrup — a sweetener used in many organic and gluten-free foods, including baby formula — may be a hidden source of arsenic.
No surprise here: arsenic is not good for you. In high doses, of course, it’s a deadly poison, but even at lower levels exposure to arsenic can raise the risks of cancer and heart disease.
‘Congress ready to increase Israel defense funding’
US legislators set to more than make up for White House cuts to missile defense spending, Capitol Hill sources tell the ‘Post’; if Israel asks for more money, “without a doubt they would get it,” Congressional aid says.
Congress is set to significantly increase funding for Israeli missile defense to more than make up for White House cuts to the program, Capitol Hill sources told The Jerusalem Post Tuesday.
New study links childhood leukaemia to nuclear power plant radiation
The UK government's scientific advisory group found no link between childhood leukaemia and proximity to nuclear power plants, but German and French research has found an alarming doubling of risk. Matilda Lee reports.
The study, conducted by the Institut de Radioprotection et de Surete Nucleaire (INSERM) and reported in the International Journal on Cancer in January 2012, looked at child leukaemia cases nationwide diagnosed between 2002 and 2007, with addresses coded around 19 nuclear power plants. It demonstrated a stastically signficant doubling of the incidence of leukaemia childhood near nuclear power plants.
Anti-Science Blogger Admits Heartland Institute’s ‘Special Project’ To Distort Temperature Data
Questions about the authenticity of the leaked Heartland Institute documents are fading, as projects described therein are confirmed. Heartland’s senior fellow James Taylor confirmed the existence of the climate-denier classroom curriculum project to ThinkProgress Green yesterday.
Now, anti-science blogger Anthony Watts has confirmed that Heartland is funding his project to display weather station data, detailed in the leaked fundraising plan. In a comment at Andrew Montford’s Bishop Hill blog, Watts claims there are no “nefarious motives” in his project:
For Chinese VP Xi, another ‘date night’ in Iowa
Love is in the air in Iowa — or at least the diplomatic equivalent of it.
When Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping arrived in this small town late Wednesday, carefully chosen welcoming gifts were on hand, nostalgic remembrances were on everyone’s lips and hearts all around were ready for the wooing.
Officially speaking, Xi, who is expected to become China’s president next year, picked Iowa as the centerpiece of his U.S. tour because he visited here as a lowly provincial official in 1985 to learn about American agriculture.
