Virginia pastor will spend five years in prison for sexually abusing three boys over the course of seven years, a judge ruled.
Gregory D. Forehand, pastor of Real Life Christian Church in Chesapeake, Va., pleaded guilty in March to five counts of custodial indecent liberties. Circuit Court Judge Edward W. Hanson Jr. exceeded the state's sentencing guidelines for the plea that called for Forehand to serve three to six months in jail, The (Norfolk) Virginian Pilot reported Tuesday.
Hanson admonished Forehand's conduct for taking advantage of the three teenage boys in his care during overnight stays at his house and on youth mission trips he organized, saying Forehand took away the "innocence of youth."
"I doubt we will ever really know the extent of [the abuse]," Hanson said, "but it must be punished, and it must be punished somewhat severely."
