A suspect is in custody after a person was shot dead at Purdue University on Tuesday, according to officials.
One man, who was not immediately identified, was killed after shots were fired inside the West Lafayette school's electrical engineering building shortly after noon, authorities said.
University Police Chief John Cox described the shooting as a targeted attack on one individual, saying the suspect "seemed to have had intentions for the decedent."
WTHR reported that the victim was a teaching assistant and the suspect is a student.
Immediately after opening fire the shooter exited the building where he was taken into custody without a fight, said Cox.
The suspect was described by Cox as since providing "little to no cooperation” to authorities. Students remained on lockdown for nearly two hours after the shots were fired, officials said.
