A Minnesota judge has sentenced a confessed rapist to 361 days in jail - the equivalent of time served - to spare his victims the ordeal of testifying.
Michael Stucky, 19, was immediately released from a Dakota County jail after pleading to guilty to two counts of criminal sexual conduct on Monday.
County Attorney James Backstrom said he supported the plea agreement, as did the girls' parents.
"We believe this serves the interests of justice and the victims of these crimes," he told the Star Tribune. The sentence prevents "having their daughters traumatized" by taking the witness stand, Backstrom said of the teens' families.
Stucky was 18 when he was arrested in August 2013 for the rape of a 15-year-old girl in her bedroom, and the sexual assault of 13-year-old girl a few months earlier.
