Tropical Storm Nate on track to hit U.S. as hurricane over weekend

Tropical Storm Nate kills 22, heads to N Orleans

Tropical Storm Nate roared toward Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula on Friday after drenching Central America with heavy rain that was blamed for at least 22 deaths in Nicaragua and Costa Rica.

Forecasters said Nate should reach the U.S. Gulf Coast as a Category 1 hurricane over the weekend, potentially near New Orleans. A hurricane watch has been posted for the Louisiana coast.

A "life-threatening" storm surge of up to 7 feet is possible in some parts of Louisiana, the National Weather Service warned.
