National Christmas Tree Toppled By Wind

Nat'l Xmas tree topples in windThe National Christmas Tree in Washington was blown over by high winds Tuesday, two days before it was set to be lit in a much-anticipated annual ceremony.

H​ere's what happened:

-​Local news outlets started airing reports around 5 p.m. EST, saying the National Christmas Tree had blown over. Photos and video showed the tree laying on its side.

-​There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.

-​The tree sits on the Ellipse, a park just south of the White House.

-​It wasn't immediately clear if the annual lighting ceremony would go on Thursday as planned. Traditionally, the president and first lady do the honors.
