US Mexico fail to reach deal on tariffs

The U.S. and Mexico failed to reach an agreement to avert sweeping tariffs during a Wednesday meeting between top officials from both countries, according to media reports.

The talks at the White House came just days before the Trump administration is set to impose 5 percent tariffs on all Mexican imports, part of an effort to get Mexico to stem the flow of migrants reaching the U.S.

The Trump administration has said the tariffs, which are scheduled to take effect Monday, could increase to 25 percent by October if Mexico does not take more steps to curb illegal migration.
