TVNL Editor's Comments: Why do they still “trust the president?” John McCain today said that he trusts the president to do the right thing in regards to Karl Rove? Why? When do we stop trusting the good intentions of George W. Bush? How many issues have to come up where it clear that we have not been told the truth, before members of Congress realize that their job is to hold the president accountable, it is not their job to trust the president!

Let me reiterate: When a member of Congress gives the president the benefit of the doubt on an issue of accountability and does not take an active role in verifying the facts, or investigating the president, then he or she is shirking their responsibility! Congress has been shirking their responsibility for 5 years! Think about it!Jesse, Editor, TvNewsLIES.org

WAR : http://www.tvnewslies.org/news/#war

· 'Iraq has been an absolute gift to al-Qaida' - Anger over the U.S.-led war in Iraq and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict also seems to be providing some inspiration, despite early arguments from Bush administration officials that fighting insurgents in Iraq would help prevent them from launching attacks on Western targets. The war has instead turned into a recruiting tool, experts said.

· Cook: War in Iraq boosted terrorism - However he said intelligence agencies had warned Tony Blair on the eve of conflict that military action would increase the terrorist threat to Britain. - "The problem is that we have handed al Qaida an immense propaganda gift, one that they exploit ruthlessly," he told the BBC News 24 Sunday programme. - "There have been more suicide bombings in the two years since we invaded Iraq than in the 20 years before it. Yes, it has happened around the world. I don't think you can make a simple link between any one event and Iraq, but undoubtedly it has boosted terrorism.

· Iraq: This is now an unwinnable conflict - As he completes another tour of duty in the chaos of Iraq, award-winning reporter Patrick Cockburn charts how Bush and Blair's 'winnable war' turned into a mess that is inspiring a worldwide insurgency

· 'Taleban' shoot dead Afghan judge - Suspected Taleban gunmen have shot dead a judge in southern Afghanistan, in the latest apparent attack on government officials ahead of September elections.

· Baghdad lorry bomb targets police - At least 22 people have been killed in a car bombing at a police station in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.

POLITICS : http://www.tvnewslies.org/news#politics

· Ex-Diplomat's Surprise Volley on Iraq Drove White House Into Political Warfare Mode - If believed, Mr. Wilson's accusations were poised to add an insider's authority to the cloud of doubt beginning to grow around the Iraq enterprise, as the resistance was proving far more stubborn than anticipated and the search for Saddam Hussein's weapons was coming up empty.

· For Bush, Effect of Investigation of C.I.A. Leak Case Is Uncertain - So far the disclosures about the involvement of Karl Rove, among others, have not exacted any substantial political price from the administration. And nobody has suggested that the investigation directly implicates the president.
TVNL Comment: What's wrong with this picture?

· Rovegate: The scandal that lays bare the cynicism behind Bush's war in Iraq - It has the classic ingredients of a spy thriller: undercover agents, investigative journalists and a Middle Eastern dictator. But as Rupert Cornwell reports, this Washington tale is fact, not fiction

ECONOMY : http://www.tvnewslies.org/news#economy

· Temperatures soar - and so does cost of electricity - As the hot weather has driven the demand for — and the cost of — electricity higher, critics are wondering why deregulation of the power industry hasn't led to lower prices, as was promised when regulations were loosened a decade ago.

· Layoff trend worries U.S. industry experts - But some economy watchers are suddenly concerned that this latest flurry of job cuts - a byproduct of various trends such as outsourcing, mergers, automation, changing technology and consumer demands - might foreshadow some trouble ahead.

· McKinney reopens 9/11 - In the wake of the attacks, the administration was able to greatly expand the president's power and the reach of the federal government, they said, but whistle-blowers and other potential witnesses who could have testified to the Sept. 11 commission about such things were either prevented from speaking or ignored in the commission's final report. Panelists called the commission's report "a cover-up."

· All Quiet on the Home Front, and Some Soldiers Are Asking Why - From bases in Iraq and across the United States to the Pentagon and the military's war colleges, officers and enlisted personnel quietly raise a question for political leaders: if America is truly on a war footing, why is so little sacrifice asked of the nation at large?
