· Before the War, CIA Reportedly Trained a Team of Iraqis to Aid U.S. - Before the war in Iraq began, the CIA recruited and trained an Iraqi paramilitary group, code-named the Scorpions, to foment rebellion, conduct sabotage, and help CIA paramilitaries who entered Baghdad and other cities target buildings and individuals, according to three current and former intelligence officials with knowledge of the unit.
TVNL Comment: How is this legal? This sounds like it breaks both domestic and international law.


· US Marine captured in Iraq - AN Iraqi insurgent group said overnight it has captured a US Marine who was wounded in a clash in western Iraq in which eight other Marines were killed.


· Poll worker among 9 killed in Afghan violence - At least nine people, including a poll worker, have been killed this week in Afghanistan, part of a fresh wave of violence ahead of next month's parliamentary polls, officials said on Wednesday.


· US journalist killed in Iraq - Iraqi police say Steven Vincent and his Iraqi translator were kidnapped from a street in central Basra yesterday evening. - Both were later shot but the translator survived.


· 14 MARINES KILLED NEAR HADITHA - Fourteen Marines and a civilian interpreter, assigned to Regimental Combat Team 2, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward), were killed in action early this morning when their amphibious assault vehicle was attacked by an improvised explosive device.


· MARINE KILLED BY CAR BOMB NEAR HIT - A Marine assigned to Regimental Combat Team-2, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward), was killed in action Aug. 1 by a suicide vehicle-borne improvised explosive device while conducting combat operations near Hit, Iraq.


· SIX MARINES KILLED NEAR HADITHA - Six Marines assigned to Regimental Combat Team-2, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward), were killed in action August 1 near Haditha.

· The Iraq Infection - Military doctors are fighting to contain an outbreak of a potentially deadly drug-resistant bacteria that apparently originated in the Iraqi soil.
