The incident, which occurred shortly before 10:30 p.m., posed no threat to the White House, and the public doesn't face any ongoing safety concerns, Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi shared on X, formerly Twitter.
Officials said in a statement early Sunday that “security protocols were implemented as officers cleared the vehicle and attempted to render aid to the driver who was discovered deceased.”
Washington's Metropolitan Police Department identified the driver as an adult male and shared in a post on X that the vehicle crashed into a security barrier around the complex. Law enforcement officials added that the incident is currently being investigated “only as a traffic crash.”
