UFOs spotted 'by hundreds' at wind turbine site

UFOs have allegedly been seen by hundreds of witnesses close to the wind turbine that many suspect was hit by an alien spaceship.

Residents claimed to have seen bright flashing spheres in the skies near Louth, Lincolnshire, where the 290ft turbine was mangled in a mystery collision.

Ministry of Defence insiders have reportedly said the UFOs could be unmanned stealth bombers on test flights.

The black delta-wing craft, called Taranis, is understood to have been making test runs on the coastal bombing ranges at Donna Nook and North Coates, which are right next to the site of the wrecked wind turbine.

Israel 'shelled civilian shelter'

Israeli forces shelled a house in the Gaza Strip which they had moved around 110 Palestinians into 24 hours earlier, the UN quotes witnesses as saying.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) called it "one of the gravest incidents" since the beginning of the offensive.

The shelling at Zeitoun, a south-east suburb of Gaza City, on 5 January killed some 30 people, the report said.

Gaza bloodshed continues despite UN calls for ceasefire

Israeli forces pressed on with their offensive in Gaza today despite a UN security council resolution calling for an "immediate" and "durable" ceasefire.

Seven Palestinians from one family, including an infant, were killed early today, the 14th day of the conflict in Gaza, when Israeli jets bombed a five-storey building in Beit Lahiya, northern Gaza. There was heavy aerial bombing on the outskirts of Gaza City, and Israeli naval ships shelled Deir el-Balah, in central Gaza.

The Myth of Bush As The Hero of 9/11

As January 20 grows larger in the window, I've been thinking more often about the Bush legacy -- specifically about certain aspects of the president's record that are in danger of being completely obliterated and replaced with myths and wholesale fiction.

For example. Last week on a special episode of Hardball, my favorite insufferable hack, TIME's Mark Halperin, remarked that one of the president's greatest accomplishments was his response to the September 11 terrorist attacks.

Cheney: CIA did nothing illegal in interrogations

Vice President Dick Cheney said Thursday that he sees no reason for President George W. Bush to pre-emptively pardon anyone at the CIA involved in harsh interrogations of suspected terrorists. "I don't have any reason to believe that anybody in the agency did anything illegal," he said.

New Research Scandal: Scientist’s Hidden Tobacco Agenda Exposed

The CRI carries out activities in support of the WHO's public health programs and is an internationally renowned teaching institution. MacKenzie and Collin's study suggests Walk used the connections he made to influence the study and teaching of environmental toxicology -- the study of how chemicals in the environment, including tobacco smoke, can injure human health -- at the institute. The scientist's hidden agenda? To advance the interests of Philip Morris within Thailand and across Asia.

The newly discovered link between Philip Morris and the CRI discussed in their PLoS Medicine paper raises suspicions that the tobacco industry is influencing medical research at the institution. This is especially troubling because of the CSI's WHO affiliation, the researchers point out. Article 5.3 of the international treaty called the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control asserts public health policies must be protected from the vested interests of tobacco companies.

Did the Reagan Revolution actually win? Local and State Governments are Selling Off Public Property and Services

Reagan's economic target was to drown government in a cocktail of lowered government spending, deregulation and reduced tax rates. However, in order to shrink government to bathtub size, the role of private business had to expand to fill basic needs, which was totally fine with Republicans.

But another consequence of Reaganomics, one that doesn't jive so much with traditional Republican values, is the reduction of states' powers. Local governments are beginning to see the real meaning of trickle-down economics: dwindling federal funds make it harder for states and cities to meet annual budget requirements.
