Health officials have called off plans for a study examining a controversial type of treatment that some autism activists have touted as alternative medical therapy for children with the condition.
The National Institute of Mental Health, or NIMH, part of the U.S. National Institutes of Health, said in a statement on Wednesday that it has canceled a study aimed at assessing the effectiveness of a treatment called chelation.
Judges around the world have long looked to the decisions of the United States Supreme Court for guidance, citing and often following them in hundreds of their own rulings since the Second World War.
But now American legal influence is waning. Even as a debate continues in the court over whether its decisions should ever cite foreign law, a diminishing number of foreign courts seem to pay attention to the writings of American justices.
At least five people have been killed in a suspected missile attack by a US drone on a village in north-west Pakistan, local officials say.
The officials said missiles hit the village of Baghar in South Waziristan, close to the Afghan border.

The Anchorage Republican was not charged with a crime and the law enforcement investigation into the incident is over. McGuire, who chairs the State Affairs Committee, is part of the Senate's ruling coalition.
The New York Police Department is happy to talk about its plans to ring lower Manhattan with thousands of security cameras. But the Department won't say exactly where the cameras are, or what will be done with the data. So now the New York City Liberties Union is suing the NYPD, to force 'em to fess up on the spycams.
The U.S. said no Americans were hurt.
