On the 70th anniversary of Pearl Harbour, the attack that propelled America into the Second World War, a declassified memo shows that Japanese surprise attack was expected.
Now, on the 70th anniversary of Japan's devastating bombardment of the US Pacific Fleet at Pearl Harbour, Hawaii, evidence has emerged showing that President Franklin D.Roosevelt was warned three days before the attack that the Japanese empire was eyeing up Hawaii with a view to "open conflict."
They called people “animals” and “savages.” One comment said, “Drop a bomb and wipe them all out.”

The process of extraction of natural gas from black shale has been around a long time, but public concern has increased in recent years. Both public and private figures are calling for stricter regulations on hydraulic fracturing, also known as hydro-fracking. In states that allow this process, there have been cases of environmental pollution, including: contaminated ground water and increased levels of illness. In addition, the companies may provide no plan for efficient waste handling or accident mitigation, and potentially-harmful concentrations of radioactivity are released into the environment.
Scientists have found the biggest black holes known to exist -- each one 10 billion times the size of our sun. A team led by astronomers at the University of California, Berkeley, discovered the two gigantic black holes in clusters of elliptical galaxies more than 300 million light years away. That's relatively close on the galactic scale.
"They are monstrous," Berkeley astrophysicist Chung-Pei Ma told reporters. "We did not expect to find such massive black holes because they are more massive than indicated by their galaxy properties. They're kind of extraordinary."
Officials in Marengo County report an explosion apparently caused by a gas pipeline rupture. It happened off Highway 69, near Rembert Hills Road south of Linden, just after 3:30 Saturday afternoon. The explosion was heard for miles around, and witnesses reported seeing flames shooting the air.
Williams Gas, which owns the pipeline, has shut off that section of the pipeline. The explosion happened in a rural area, so no people or houses were nearby. No injuries were reported, according to Marengo County EMA Director Kevin McKinney.
