Trump cancels hundreds of student visas, forcing rapid departures

Student visas revkedThe Trump administration has revoked hundreds of international student visas across the country, setting off a desperate scramble for them to leave the United States within days.  Universities have reported some students being forced to leave immediately,

The cancellations reflect a small percentage of the estimated 1.5 million international students studying in the United States, but have sent shockwaves through the collegiate community. Some of the cancellations appear to be connected to things as minor as roommate disputes or as off-campus traffic tickets, university officials said, while others appear to be connected to pro-Palestinian protest participation.

"I've been doing this for 25 years and I've never seen 300 students lose their visas," said Len Saunders, a Washington state immigration attorney based near the Canadian border. "To hear that something like 300 visas were cancelled out of the blue … it's all political. To read that there's hundreds of people having their visas cancelled, you know exactly what it is."

china tariffPresident Donald Trump's tariffs on imports from China are set to rise overnight to 104% as Beijing refuses to withdraw its retaliatory tariffs on U.S. exports, the White House said Tuesday.

"It was a mistake for China to retaliate. When America is punched, (the president) punches back harder," White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said at a briefing with reporters. "That's why there will be 104% tariffs going into effect on China tonight at midnight."

Chinese goods were already set to be slapped with 54% tariffs as part of Trump's wave of added duties on dozens of nations set to go into effect Wednesday. The figure was the combination of a 20% previously imposed tariff and a 34% additional tariff on Chinese goods as retaliation for the U.S.'s large trade deficit with the the rival economic power.

Israelis kill 32 in Gaza

Israeli strikes in the Gaza Strip killed at least 32 people, including over a dozen women and children, local health officials said Sunday, as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu headed to the United States to meet with President Donald Trump about the war.

It has blocked the import of food, fuel and other supplies for over a month to the coastal territory heavily reliant on outside assistance.

Israel’s military late Sunday ordered Palestinians to evacuate several neighborhoods in central Gaza’s Deir al-Balah shortly after abrout 10 projectiles were fired from Gaza — the largest barrage from the territory since Israel resumed the war.

Israel changes account of Gaza medic killings after video showed deadly attack

Video shows killing of medicsIsrael's army has admitted its soldiers made mistakes over the killing of 15 emergency workers in southern Gaza on 23 March.

The convoy of Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) ambulances, a UN car and a fire truck from Gaza's Civil Defence came under fire near Rafah.
