A group of Algerians who were ordered released from Guantanamo Bay on Thursday have long denied being terrorists, saying they were swept up in Bosnia and handed over to the U.S. as political pawns.

Then came that epic morning, which Bush answered by giving the hijackers far more than they could accomplish with four planes. His grand democratization plan reduced Iraq to rubble, drove Iran to arm, and provided terrorists with the ultimate recruiting tool. America, once renowned for her decency, became the aggressor her foes alleged.
At home, our failed attempt at global liberation has left us less free than ever before. Ancient liberties, cultural imperatives, even basic solvency were subsumed by the war effort. And the conservative movement that gave Bush his margin sanitized his radicalism at the cost of its soul.
It would be easy to leave him to that delusion and turn a more hopeful page. But Bush wasn’t alone in his failure: a country marched behind him and a movement cheered him on. If the failings of the Bush era are to be corrected—or at least not repeated—we need a clear view of where we’ve been. History will render the final judgment, but herewith a preliminary damage assessment:
Thousands of Ecstasy pills seized in synagogues
Local police, who were tipped off about the drugs a few days ago, found 3,000 Ecstasy pills and a pistol concealed in the ceiling of a synagogue on Shivtei Yisrael Street.
An additional 3,000 pills were found in the bathroom of another synagogue located nearby.

Palin's father says Alaska governor sorting clothes to find GOP's
According to her dad, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin spent part of the weekend "frantically" trying to sort out which of her family's outfits belong to the Republican party.
Palin and John McCain's campaign faced a storm of criticism for spending more than $150,000 at high-end stores such as Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus to dress the vice presidential nominee. Republican National Committee lawyers are still trying to determine exactly what clothing was bought for Palin, what was returned and what has happened to the rest.
